The Spanish traditional month of rest coincides with many local festivals in towns within the region of Valencia. And this includes Paterna, a few kilometres from Valencia, where festivities revolve around three main themes. On the one hand, we have the Moors and Christians which, divided into two factions, take over the streets of the town for two consecutive nights. Music has always been a key ingredient in festivals, and Paterna’s quality offering will not disappoint. Residents and visitors can attend four performances in the specially adapted grounds of the Los Naranjos car park, which will include the well-known voices of Marta Sanchez and the rocker, Rosendo. Lastly, this being a major festival, gunpowder will feature strongly. La Cordà (a firecracker session), an event with an international following, will be held again this year and is sure to be a big success. The festival in honour of the Most Holy Christ of Faith (Santísimo Cristo de la Fe) and Saint Vincent Ferrer (San Vicente Ferrer) gets off to a start on 19 August, with an opening speech. Below we list some of the most important events.
