This retrospective exhibition was organised with the collaboration of the Sociedad Estatal de Conmemoraciones Culturales (National Society for Cultural Commemorations), for the 100-year anniversary of the artist’s birth. It is sponsored by the Fundación Caja Murcia and organised by Pascual Masiá who was in charge of the exhibition held in 1974 the Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia.
Ramón Gaya talked about “feeling and substance in painting” and stated that “for the creator there is no known end nor will there ever be”. It’s about leaving this life and vocation with a living thing, i.e. something completely original, nascent. That is, the goal to strive for is not mastery, but a beginning.” The essence of the painting - space, light and colour, with shades, reflections and transparency, gently nurture his works: blurred views of Venice, warm Italian landscapes, expressive portraits, and homages to his favourite artists in the form of still lifes – a genre which he nurtured as only a master can – make up his works and chart an artistic career as prolific as his own life. Thus, simple everyday objects, living landscapes and the people he shares with us bring us closer to the man and the artist. The exhibition is a veritable feast of discovery and aesthetic enjoyment.
