After the world premiere in the Orchard Hall, Tokyo in 2006, the choreographer and dancer María Pagés continues to surprise audiences the world over with her "Sevilla" show. The Teatro Principal de Valencia will present this long running hit from June 12-15th. The representation of Seville fits, together with Tiempo muerto by Rafael Amargo and José Porcel’s Libre Albedrío, in the third series of the “Dancing Flamenco” cycle organised by Teatres de la Generalitat and held for the first time in the Teatro Principal de Valencia.
Two years of hard work, and performances around the world from China to Italy, and from Morocco to Singapore, lend strong credentials to the show for María Pagés company arrival in Valencia.
The show, according to the artist herself, focuses on “the contrasts of Seville, of life, and of flamenco”, and presents a return to her roots, to her beginnings in the world of dance in a special homage to the city of her birth. More than twenty artists - dancers, guitarists, singers and other instrumentalists - will appear on the stage to make José María Sánchez’s script come alive.
From a musical point of view, this particular portrait of the Sevillian capital combines the sound of flamenco with the musical scores of Shostakovich, Sarasate, Bizet, Gardel and Modugno among others, in a fusion of distinct musical styles revolving around the same axis, the dance.
