On until July 7 at the Centro Cultural Bancaja is Tanagras. Figuras para la vida y la eternidad. Colección del Museo del Louvre, an exhibition entirely dedicated to the art of the terracotta in Ancient Greece and, specifically, to the small statues known as Tanagras. The name of these works come from the Boeotian city of Tanagras, the main production centre of this type of terracotta. The show, made up of more than 200 pieces from the Louvre collection, was organised using the newly completed studies about the meaning of the statues and artisan practices in Antiquity, especially around the polychromes. Some of the most notable pieces on display in the Centro Cultural Bancaja are La dama de azul, whose blue tunic has a surface decorated by an exceptional trimming made with metal leaf, and La Sofocleana, a miniature version of a statue sculpted in Athens in honour of Sophocles.
