The other day I read that Heidi Klum modelled for Victoria’s Secret on a catwalk three weeks after her fourth baby was born. A week earlier she had gone to a costume party dressed as a raven, making it clear that her figure was back in shape. What amazes me is that two weeks after labour she had the energy to go out partying, because I, like other mere mortals, am still suffering the consequences of my pregnancy, and feel too lazy to go out even during the day. What can I do? Exhaustion makes me value a bed more than a glass of Rum and Coke. But beyond the (unhealthy) envy that Heidi’s body provokes in me, I wonder how much we should admire that a woman who makes a living from her beauty recovers the tools of her trade so quickly. I do not know. The rest of us who make a living using our brains, don’t create a big fuss that two plus two equals four after giving birth. And that, after all, is much more spectacular.
